Just a quick suggestion, perhaps you could consider a trinocular scope. This
way you can bolt on a digital camera for image storage to PC.
Justification I have used in the past is earlier detection of solder joint
failure on product life cycle testing. ie you throw all your in house tests
(temp, humidity, vibration, cycling etc etc)at the product and examine the
parts under test for fatigue and wear.
Also used for analysis of component failures both mechanical and electronic,
photographic recording of tests and results, e-mail of results to vendors,
time lapse recording of tests and remote monitoring, photography for
marketing literature and presentations amongst others!
