Hi Wayne,
I think most shops would be using some configuration of chemical cleaning for
cores. Most of them are probably using an acid or alkaline cleaner followed
by a chromate remover then a micro-etch bath. Some may employ an anti-ox
bath.
Some shops may be using an aluminum oxide blaster and there are likely a few
using pumice scrubbers (for thicker cores when material movement is not an
issue).
I'm aware of shops using DSTF foils straight from the box - no cleaning.
Although even the manufacturers of DSTF recommend at least processing it
through an alkaline and/or acid cleaner of one sort or another.
And then there's the fortunate few who can afford to use doubletreat, which
requires no cleaning.
But for the most part I'd say the industry standard is some form of
relatively mild chemical cleaning (30-90 microinches).
