It is strange to see an engineer putting down the patent process. If a new idea or
concept is not protected for the benefit of the inventor (person or a company) by
patents, why one would spend time and resources developing better processes,
materials, design and software. Patents made this scientific and engineering progress
possible.
Every engineer should be proud to invent a better mouse trap and be rewarded for it.
Patents make money, both for the individuals and companies. Look at IBM, TI, Motorola,
Intel, Dupont, Sony, GM to name a few. Many of their patents are cash cows and brings
loads of money.
Go ahead, invent something useful, you may like it.
