Dear Net,

Thanks for all your input. This job surprises me all the time, just when I
think I have all
the variables under control- I miss one! Technically, I knew the bath temp
limits but
didn't consider the temp of the panel entering the plating tank. With the DML
we've
had smutting issues before which we solved with an aggressive hot acid
cleaner,
a generic Na Persulfate microetch w/1% H2SO4 and warmer rinsing. Typical
milder
non-etching cleaners did not work for us. We went to warm water (redirected
cooling water from our etcher) to better rinse off persulfate residues. We
didn't
realize we were also averting cold weather smutting issues until the filter
clogged
(we subsidize the rinse volume with tap) and the rinse temps went down to 58
F.
Now, we know. Today the rinse temps are at 100 F and they are plating
beautifully!

Thanks Again,
Julie Dixon
