Pick up a book by Elayhu Goldratt called "The Goal". That' where the concept
is first breeched. There are several other books out that delve a little
deeper. You can find those titles at the ol' ASQ bookstore.
Although the principles can be applied to a variety of disciplines, it is
most commonly used in throughput management on the manufacturing floor.
