Emico,
In general, most legends and other markings should meet the adhesion and
permancy requirements of other insulative coatings materials such as solder
resists. As such, many companies use the "Tape Peel Test" for most deposited
ink legends (such as screen printed or stamped) to evaluate the adhesion of
the marking to it's mounting surface. The A-600(E), section 2.8 "Markings"
currently doesn't address the adhesion of markings. In general, markings
should have similar adhesion and permanancy requirements as other coatings.
As such the Tape Peel Test in the IPC's Test Methods Manual, IPC-TM-650,
Methods 2.4.1 or 2.4.28.1 are adapted to a Tape Peel Marking Test (in
tradition with the IPC's policy for documentation, copies of both of the test
methods are located in the back of the A-600E).
