Steve,
Manual wire bonding (loading and unloading of the part, plus manual control
of the bonding tool) is entirely do-able, but you are not likely to find
many individuals nowadays with the patience to perform the task - certainly
not for anything but very small quantity builds.
If the device has more than (just to pick a number) 25 or 30 bond pads, or
if they are less than 4-6 mils square, or on a very tight pitch - it becomes
very difficult.
Better to farm it out to someone with wire bonding experience (and equipment)
PS - I could probably sell you a good, used K&S Model 4124 manual ball bonder!
