Randy:

I haven't found any. Even our customer's who request Ni/Au finishes don't have
criteria. I'd be happy to work with you on it. Common sense says that
functionally, what is needed is:

 - Good solderability
 - Flat smooth surface

I go with a Dazor inspection, allowing no exposed Ni visible under the dazor.
Pass the ANSI J-STD-003 solderability test, and follow normal inspection
procedures for coating on tabs, tab voids, etc that would apply to Cu or HASL
pads.

Shading of ring lights I encourage, to help referee on visible scratches, etc.

Hope this helps. I plan on working with the alternative finishes task group to
encourage this type of simplistic, functional specification.

Subject: FAB and ASSY: Spec for Electroless Ni and Immersion Au

What industry standards are available that provide inspection criteria
for immersion gold and electroless nickel finishes?

If no specification is available, what are OEMs using as inspection
criteria for this finish?
