Nicholas,

RAMBUS is a "next generation" of DRAM. It is a revolutionary rather than
evolutionary step up from SDRAM.

Without going into too much electrical detail, basically it runs with a
800Mhz clock.

Depending on who you believe it either will or will not

It has an open standard but there is a cost (additional DRAM processing (due
to relative large die size)and testing and royalties)

It has very strong support from Intel; there are others that believe it does
not offer significant performance over PC133 SDRAM or DDR.

From a "TechNet" point of view some of the key items is that Rambus requires
28 ohm controlled impedance PCBs, the DRAM will mostly be in CSP or FBGA
packages, and there will be a heat spreader on the module. Additionally,
every module socket in the motherboard will have to be filled either with a
RIMM or a bare PCB, known as a Continuity Module or C-RIMM.

You can get more info, gerbers, etc. from www.rambus.com and/or
www.rimm.com.
