Dear TechNetters,

At this moment we have a discussion between the testengineers about probing on fine pitch SMD leads.
We produce boards, densely populated with fine pitch SMD's on both sides. We don't perform In Circuit Test but we do a (almost) full functional go/no go test. When we get a no go, we do a fault search.
In this area we have our discussion between the test engineers. For this fault search we need to probe, and sometimes we need to probe on fine pitch leads.
According to the official point of view this is not allowed, but more and more testengineers state that it is impossible to find the defect without probing on these fine pitch leads.
Ho do you people do this?
By the way, ICT is out of the question and we have test pads on all signal names.

Thanks in advance,

Jan Bokhove
