Doug,
We do a type of double soldering on many hand soldered high voltage
components. Actually, it involves normal soldering of the component and
then making a second pass and "ball soldering" the bottom side of the board
with a lower melting point solder. The idea is to eliminate any sharp
points which could serve as "risers" for high point charges and arcing.
