We are interested in hearing from anyone having experience electrical
testing BARE BOARDS have buried passive components, particulaily,
Ohmega-Ply resistors. Please respond to the following questions?

1. What type of data do you get from your customers or designers?
Gerber, Net Lists, Bills of material with component count and values?

2. What kind of test equipment and fixtures are used?

3. What, if any, special CAD/CAM software packages are required?

4. Do you use files which show specific component values
(i.e.R1=100ohm+/-5%)?

5. How do you merge these files? Does the net list have to be gerber
extracted? Is this an IPC D356 netlist or what?

6. How do you program the Tester, self learn using a golden board or a
custom input data test file?

7. Are there problems interpreting the test results? Can you tell the
difference between an out of tolerance or damaged component versus a
short or open which creates an unintended parallel network? Does the
test technician have to refer back to the original schematic?

8. If allowed, what rework methods are employed?

9. Do you do laser trim to value?

Finally, in your opinion, what improvements or new technologies,
software or methods are required to facilitate bare board testing of
buried passive components? Your response to any of the above questions
will be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Daniel Brandler, Ohmega
Technologies, Inc. [log in to unmask] or Tel: (310) 559-4400.
