Hi Angel,
For years, the specified solder pot temperature (in military soldering
standards and specifications) was 260 +/- 5 C (500 +/- 10 F). As process
demands have changed (due in part to increased thermal densities of PCBs
and use of heat sensitive parts) in trying to keep the delta temperature
from preheat to solder wave contact down below 120 C (one rule of thumb
-- will differ per application), the solder pot temperature is dropped to
240 - 260 C (460 - 480 F). There are pros and cons for lowering the
solder temperature and I'm sure the metallurgists can better explain this
than I, but in laymans terms a higher solder temperature will burn off
more flux (less residue) but the solder pot will develop less dross at a
lower temperature. Hope this helps.

Subject: [TN] Wave temperature

  Dear forum colleges.

I would thank your help to fix which is the normal temperature for the
solder pot in the wave machine. I think that it is between 245 and 250
Celsius, but I have listened 260 Celsius in some occasions.

  Please could you confirm it?

  Thank you

  Angel Ferrandez
