Groovy -- you and Gloria are on the right track, the IPC-T-50 is best for the terms & definitions using mostly words and the IPC-A-600 has illustrations/photo's of most conditions. The T-50 also has the "preferred" or "see also" pointers to better/alternative/related Ts&Ds. Unfortunately the A-600, nor does the QE-605 have all of the illustrations/photo's for all conditions of base materials, conductive patterns, or polymeric coatings.

Well....It appears that some AOI equipment databases have the
ability to define names associated with defects found. The AOI
programmers aren't completely savvy about PCB Fabrication. They
need some guidance as to where they may look for some definitions
and descriptions. (Maybe also some visuals too) I was thinking
maybe IPC-A-600 or IPC-TM-50. Anybody have any suggestions?

PS-I want to help these guys or else we may be stuck with something
        like "munchies" or "pac-man bites".
