Hi, Steve,

Depends on whether you're a gizmo freak or not (you seem to be at work
anyway), but given that you consider them as electronic tags, as do I, I
guess you just want something that makes and receives phone calls and
aren't bothered about too many of the fancy functions that many of today's
cells have.

I go for Nokia's, even though they're maybe not the height of style,
lookswise. Their menu structure is more user friendly than, say, Siemens or
Motorola and they're not desparately expensive (comparatively). If you're
taking out a new plan, you'll probably get a phone with it for free or
token cost. Nokia's seem to be robust as all hell, mostly because they
don't have a hinge or slide for making the thing as small (and as losable)
as possible when not in use.

The say small is beautiful, but more small phones are lost than bigger
ones, mainly because they're not missed immediately, and they do slide out
of pockets and bags or are easily lifted by less scrupulous members of
anti-society.

If you want to send and receive pictures, even take pictures to send, surf
the net (not very valuable on that size of screen and download speed) send
and receive e-mails, etc. then you can spend a lot more $$$$ and get a
gadget that will be even more attractive to anti-society. All phones do SMS
(Short Messaging System), which is very handy.

If you want a real expert opinion, ring up any Singaporean kid, who will
give you chapter and verse on all the models and their functionality. Here,
they're a national craze - don't understand it myself, but then to them I'm
often something of a dinosaur in my opinions. Hell, I don't even like
soccer - what does that tell you?

By the way, one feature all these things have, that's very useful - the OFF
button. Many folks actually feel guilty about switching their phone off, or
get fed up with many scoldings when people can't get you, but hey!, you're
your own man! Enjoy!

Peter

Hi ya'll...

I apologize for the off-content post, but I'm considering a
cell-phone...held off for as long as I could, but I'm realizing that there
is many benefits to having one...

I look at a cell phone the same as a beeper, an electronic "Leash" as you
will...

But I guess that's not a bad thing...I want to get my own now.

I know there are hundreds, upon hundreds, of cell phones out there, as well
as cell phone plans. I'm asking what is the best for the money...

I've been looking, and have an opinion, but I'd like to tap on this
distinguished group (many have had cell phones for quite a while), as to
what I should look at.

Sorry for the "Off topic post", but I think I could learn something
valuable from somebody...
