>From the EMPF HelpLine in Indianapolis; prepared by Jack Crawford
Whether or not the board can be effectively repaired with an integrity that
is near to that of the original assy will depend on the extent of damage.
Assuming the substrate material is glass/epoxy and that damage is
"superficial" and not disrupting positioning of any internal active
layers/interconnects, the repair is relatively easy but it can be time
consuming. Formal training is available from a variety of sources. Pace in
Laurel Springs MD 301-490-9860 is one source of equipment that is
specialized to do this type of repair. They have training courses available
at their facility and occasionally at other locations. Sometimes their
reps/distributors will provide some guidance at your location that may be
adequate for you to accomplish the task. Circuit Repair Corporation in
Rowley MA 508-948-7973 has training courses to do this kind of repair, and
they also contract to do the repairs for end users. The Electronics
Manufacturing Learning Center here at the EMPF is restructuring the "Through
Hole Repair Course" in conjunction with Circuit Repair Corporation and
project to be ready to teach the expanded course in March. Other sources of
training that come to mind readily are Soldering Technology International in
Huntsville AL 205-461-9191 and OMNI Training in Rancho Cucamonga CA
909-945-9495. There are other sources of training, including some like ours
that will tailor the training to your specific needs. The show catalogs from
the NEPCONs and from Surface Mount International in San Jose always have a
long list of training companies.

I have an infrequent situation where a PCB is dropped and the corner is
damaged. Is there a defined process or any training available on conducting
these types of repairs? I would rather not contract out the repair work.
