The IEEE Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology Society (CPMT
for short) has an annual conference called the "International Electronic
Manufacturing Technology Symposium" which expressly addresses manufacturing
technology as it relates to components and packaging technologies. The 1995
conference had a five paper session devoted to Design for Manufacturing (pp.
438 to 479), and I'm pretty sure the earlier conferences had similar
sessions/papers. Also, the CPMT Society divided their Transactions in 1996
to create a new publication devoted to Manufacturing Technology. Walt
Trybula, Austin Tx, is the editor. Walt was caught up in the SEMATECH
down-sizing (as of 3/31/96), so I don't have a new e-mail for him as yet,
but if anyone wants to get in touch with him, let me know and I will go dig.

CPMT strives to keep their Transactions readable and comprehensible to the
average engineer (if I can understand them, anyone can!). CPMT would like
more papers for the Mfg. Transactions - they are trying to grow this
publication, and make it useful to the manufacturing community.
