You can request the test coupons several ways, depending on application. The
best is to call for the test coupons on the drawing notes or the purchase
order.
Most board house already have their own coupon design, however these are
not always what you will want to have or see. You could design a standard
for you company and application. It all depends on the test you are wanting
and
willing to do. In all cases, the coupons should represent the situation
found on
the board.
Talk to your board manufacturer and your design people. The manufacturers
should be very familiar with test coupons, if not, how do they stay in
business?
You can call for test coupons on any board or panel. I personally think that
one
coupon per panel should be sufficient. (Sometimes two coupon is better if
you
want to make both impedance tests and microsections, both coupons are quite
different.)
Their is quite a few sources out there that suggest different format for
coupons. Make sure that the microsection coupons have the smallest holes on
the board with the ASSOCIATED pad size, quite a few suppliers beef up the
pads in the coupon, leading to erroneous annular ring measurements.
