Dale:
I have done some selective soldering and have had mixed
success. CCAs with bottom side surface mount had to have
been the toughest, however, the board itself was very dense
and spacing was not conducive to selective soldering for
that particular CCA, whereas others worked well. Spacing is
key to allow solder flow. I had a lot of success with
selective soldering flexes mounted to CCAs, connectors, and
some PTH with bottom side SMT. Spacing is key. I called
Eric Miller at Precision International, Ltd., and Eric was
very helpful. Precision International has manufactured
fixtures for selective soldering. Eric was able to send
some guidelines which were very helpful. His number is
1-800-725-5388.
