As a good rule of thumb, if it does not affect the function or reliability of the intended use, then leave it alone. I only rework when absolutely necessary. I do not recommend reworking a part simply for the sake of meet spec. Specifications are guidelines generated by the end user to cover most issues. However, no specification can address every situation. If you are the end user and do not feel the nick will affect function or reliability, then use it as is.

Sometimes we must apply common sense to our daily business decisions.

Subject: PCB REPAIR

Hello,TechNetters!
Consider please the following problem:
Let's say,you have an expensive multilayer board with a nicked
conductor. The nick narrows the conductor to 50%,but there is no
problem concerning electrical performance.
Would you cosider repair with a welded covar strip?
Our supplier suggested the repair, but after seeing the mess around
it,I would much more prefer to use the board as it is.
Does anybody support this?

Thank you,
Gaby
