Thanks for the history and links. Those are some unnerving  stories to be 
sure, however I would like to make sure that the  baby does not get tossed out 
with the bath water. 
 
There are many different types of polyimide like there are many different  
types of epoxies and they have very different properties. 
 
We have all seen how metallic lead in electronic solder was  vilified based 
on the actions of lead salts in paint and lead in gasoline.  It is too easy to 
begin to slide down that slope if it gets latched onto by  marketing types.  
 
I would hate to see polyimde get a similar broad brush treatment  metallic 
lead has received.
