Arrrgh,

I don't know why it didn't hit me before but, you could try a cost of living
calculator such as the one at http://www.datamasters.com/cgi-bin/col.pl

Punch in San Jose, CA and what you know somebody makes there and it can
calculate the equivalent salary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
They are usually based on federal or state statistics so there's some weight
behind them for the HR folks.
