Very true, we don't manufacture conformal coatings, and we don't test
flux/coating combinations on a routine basis. Occasionally I am asked to
test a combination for a customer, so I do have some flux - coating data,
but only for a limited number of combinations.

Ask the flux vendors and coating vendor which combinations have been
tested, you may get lucky and not have to do the testing yourself.

Jon,
While that is true, that only relates to the compatibility between fluxes.
Seldom do you have flux vendors also providing coatings. It is the
product of the combined flux residues with the coating, especially the
solvent carrier, that you have to watch out for.

You've got to make very sure that the solder wire's core-flux or the
liquid

combinations of fluxes and coatings that don't get along.

One very good way to do that is to get the flux (or cored solder) and
coating from the same manufacturer. That way the manufacturer will
certify the
compatibility of the two materials.
