Hi Linda,

If you read further down the page it states:

"Component markings, reference designators and polarity indicators should be
mounted in such a manner that markings are visible. However, unless it is
otherwise required, it is an acceptable condition if these markings are
damaged during normal cleaning or processing."

So unless it states on the drawing that all reference designators MUST be
legible (the drawing overrides the -610), then I would say it would be just
a process indicator and not a defect.

Steve

Subject: [TN] Silkscreen

I have an assembly we had to replace a component, in the cleaning
process some of the silkscreen rubbed off. The assembly is ready to
ship!

IPC-610-D page 10-26, section 10.3.2 states Defect - Class 1,2,3 Missing
or illegible markings or reference designators for component location,
or component outlines.

Would this apply to bare board only? Or do I have to replace
silkscreen?
