When I thumb thru my specs I usually smear my lenses. Overlooking that transparent attempt at humor, a basic profile tolerance of 0.015" for a routed out assembly is the best you should ask for. With this in mind, if you needed to keep pads 0.025" from the edge, your design s/b 0.040" from the edge.

The Supplier's target on the max dimension with the 0.015" profile tolerance is going to then have a ± tolerance of 0.0075". Most Suppliers want ± 0.010".

Subject: [TN] Tolerances for board and pads

While I go thumb thru my spec's, could anyone provide the following:

1) what is the REASONABLE tolerance for a PCB outline for a vendor to

hold? (board I'm working on is 10.85mm x 12mm, with a 4.5mm x 3.9 notch

taken out)

2) what REASONABLE tolerance can be held for copper pads to the board

edge?

thanks in advance
