Jim,

I received some feedback to your question from a manufacturing plant that uses
HF1189A. That feedback is as follows:

The use of HF-1189 flux in our soldering machines required only the
changes to increase the amount of flux being removed from the boards
prior to soldering. We do not even check the specific gravity, we
change the flux once a week. Basically nothing else has changed. The
parameters are specific to part number. Please note this is a foam fluxer.

         Hello!

We are a supplier of electronic assemblies primarily for the
military. We are in the process of switching over from RMA to
water soluble flux (Kester 1189A). Typically, rosin flux has a
density of .890, which the flux density controllers on
automated equipment can easily control. Kester's 1189 flux has
a density requirement of 1.2. Standard flux density
controllers can only be dialed up to .999, so how do I control
the density of the water soluble flux? What modifications must
I incorporate in my wave soldering process to automatically
monitor and control the new flux type?

I would like to hear from those who already use the Kester
1189A flux to see how they monitor and control the density.
