Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:
The Question:
This element has two primary commercial uses: the space industry and the
automotive industry. This element absorbs oxygen in its molten state that
is not converted into an oxide but is then released when the element
solidifies. This element is unaffected by aqua regia below 100C. What
element is being described?
The Answer:
The element is Rhodium (Rh)! Rhodium derives its name from the Greek word
"rhodon" which means "rose" as rhodium salts are a reddish color. William
Wollaston discovered rhodium and kept the secret of how to refine the
element from ore until his death in 1828 - Wollaston's Catalyst made him a
wealthy man! Wollaston discovered rhodium during his work with platinum
ores from South America (he was also the discoverer of palladium).
The winner of the weekly element quiz is Heidi Havelka, Interplex Sunbelt,
and she will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week. The boys left Cedar Rapids on a cargo plane
heading for Florida this morning so they should be at Heidi's facility
before sundown.
Next week's quiz will be issued on Friday at 2:00PM Central Standard Time
USA.

- Since it's getting close to time for the Abbey's grape harvest/wine
making I'll get the monks to put them up at the Abbey guest house. From
there it's just a short walk to the vineyard. Of course the food at the
Abbey may be a little, ah, Spartan, for their tastes. But I can give them
enough pruning, weeding and cleanup to do to keep them busy all week.
(Maybe I can even get them to do the water run for the vegetable garden!
They'd probably like driving the old tractor.) And for a special perk they
can have the honor of the company of Benny, the Abbey Golden Retriever!
