In 1957 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1957>  the American Bar Association <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Bar_Association>  acknowledged the debt American law and constitutionalism had to Magna Carta by erecting a monument at Runnymede <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runnymede> .

beg to differ a wee bit on the last point...

 

ever hear of the Magna Carta?  Bounded the English monarchy to degree, laid 

the basis for recognition of  individual liberties, and arguably started 

the drift toward Enlightenment/Lockian thought that resulted in the US 

Declaration of Independence.  But, I'm no historian, so no matter. In any 

case, I doubt my progenitors (McLean of Duart) ever enthusiastically 

recognized any British monarch as a legitimate authority.
