*JOINT MEETING OF THE **SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND** CHAPTER*

*OF THE IPC DESIGNERS COUNCIL
AND
THE NUTMEG CHAPTER OF THE SMTA*

*Date*: Tuesday, the 9th of August, 2005
*Where*: Connies in Derby*
Time*: Networking 6:00pm
* Topic*: Computerizing Manufacturing into the Future
Most of the buzz associated with CAD and CAM is usually focused around
the design and engineering functions. However, as technology evolves and
lead times become shorter, demands for more efficient data communication
and manipulation beyond design is a must.

Integration of incoming logistical and engineering data into a single
database for efficient pre-production and communication provides the
basis for optimizing for manufacturability and assembly. Once all the
data is captured, modeling of the assembly machines can occur to achieve
efficient performance and line balance. In addition, optimized files may
be generated for stencil creation, bare board manufacturing and
in-circuit test. The true value of Design for Manufacturing and
Assembly/Test now takes on a whole new meaning.

This presentation focuses on the migration path of CAD data into the
world of manufacturing. In addition it illustrates a new horizon for
those designers wishing to migrate into a growing segment of our
industry. Coupled to the presentation will be a software demonstration
in support of the issues discussed.

*Speaker: *Dan Weitzman, Applications Engineer for Valor Computerized
Systems, Inc.

*Host:* This months meeting is hosted by Valor Computerized Systems,
Inc., a leader in productivity increasing engineering software solutions
to the PCB Design, Fabrication and Assembly industry. Headquartered in
Israel, they have offices throughout North America, Europe, Japan and
the Far East. Valor is best known for their ODB++ data format, a high
level engineering data exchange format.

In addition to the above presentation and demonstration, there will be a
short business meeting to elect SNEC chapter officers. The following
slate of officers is presented by the nominating committee for your
approval:

President: Kathy Murphy
Vice President: Gary DiBlanda
Treasurer: Bill Gaudelli
Secretary: Gary Ferrari
Education Chairman: Bob Wolfe
Program Chairman: Happy Holden
