Well I'll date myself. Back in the late 1980's in a former life we
worked developing flex soldering and doing large QFPs ( a ceramic 256
I/) 0.5 mm pitch- the part was about 3" square) with a Hughes hot bar
soldering system and a Farco F-120 hot bar system (actually an outer
lead bonder). The Farco (Swiss company) worked much better- I think
they're still in business.
