That can get to be a bit of a hassle, Ken, especially if you have a lot of desktop icons.

You could put your icons into two folders on your desk - one for working locally and one for working remotely. That way there are only two icons on your desktop, these two folders, and when you open the local folder they are there in the right place, and when you open the remote folder they'll get scrambled and you just deal with it. Then you have two copies of all of your desktop icons (or just have the ones you use remotely in your remote folder).

But this is also a pain as you have to open whichever folder you need at startup time, and then you have a folder and not your desktop.

A similar problem occurs when I connect my laptop to a projector - the laptop screen is set to 1400 x 1050, the projector 800 x 600 and when the projector is connected it reconfigures the screen size and rearranges the icons to fit the new size.

Can you make a copy of the Desktop folder in C:\Documents and Settings\USER (works OK if you don't have data in it) and then restore that copy? You would probably have to do that in DOS mode.

Hi Terry,

Just copy your desktop using CTRL+Print Screen. Make the image wallpaper
for both your computers. Now every time you log on you can line up your
icons with the wallpaper image and you're good to go :-)

Is it Friday yet???

Subject: [TN] Desktop save Utility - Looking For

Problem;

On my office PC I have arranged my desktop icons the way I want them (
like everyone else does).
It's a 21" screen so I have a lot of room.

But when I login remotely to do a design review etc, its on a small
screen & the desktop icons get scrambled.
That is fine & understandable. But when I get back to my work PC, I
would like to be able to recall my "saved" desktop
Icon layout. Apparently, there is NO way that Windows XP Pro allows you
to do this.....( duh ??? ).

There must be a 3rd party utility that helps me with this problem.

Anyone have any leads they can share with me?

Many thanks
Regards
TDK
