I have a strong suspicion that the photo was posed for the article but I
don't question that it has and does still happen.
They might be better to leave it outside the gates of a landfill rather than
out in the woods. It does take a measure of intelligence and compassion and
is akin to leaving an unwanted newborn child at the hospital or fire
department rather than in a dumpster in an alley.
I believe that many areas have days when once a year of so they collect
electronic waste. This consolidates the materials and makes its disposition
easier. It cannot be done for free but it need not be hugely expensive either.
Recycling fees are now collected on the front end, during purchase in California
and perhaps some other places as well.
Unfortunately, bureaucrats tend to like to make problems look bigger and
more complex so as to make their decisions look more grave and important.
I believe, we just need to keep pounding on the problem with logic and
reason and the right solutions will appear.
