     Bruce,

The component(s) in question doesn't have any intermatalic layer,
which would lead me to believe that the component was not plated. The
manufacturer of the component states that the component is alloy 42.
The x-sections revealed that the component was 46% Iron and 54% a
combination of Cadmium and steel. I also have some photos of the
x-sections if you would like to view them. I would have to send them
to you due to the fact I have not figured out how to share files on
www.driveway.com (any suggestions would be appreciated).

     Regards,

Ron,

Wasn't there a Nickel plate over the Alloy 42? And something protective,
like Au, over the Nickel? What does the component manufacturers spec sheet
say for lead composition and finish?
