     ERIC,
I'D LIKE TO SUGGEST A FEW THINGS TO YOU.
     1. IPC-D-275 IS A GOOD PLACE TO START FOR COST REDUCING A PWB DESIGN.
ON PAGE ONE OF THE STANDARD THEY IDENTIFY BOARD TYPE, BOARD CLASS, AND
BOARD PRODUCIBILITY LEVEL. ONCE YOU'VE CATATGORIZED YOUR DESIGN USING
THESE IDENTIFIERS YOU CAN SIFT THROUGH THE REST OF THE DOUCUMENT AND
CULL OUT WHAT APPLIES TO YOU.

     2. IPC-A-610 IS A SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON PWA ISSUES, IT ALSO HAS
SOME INFORMATION WHICH MIGHT BE BETTER PLACED IN IPC-D-275.

     3. INSTEAD OF TALKING TO NO PWB SHOPS, FOR FEAR OF BIASING THE
OUT-COME, TALK TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. YOU'LL BEGIN TO NOTICE
SIMILLARITIES AND/OR DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT WAYS OF ACCOMPLISHING THE
     SAME END.

Subject: PCB Cost Reduction Effort Help

Hello,
I'm looking for information that would explain about how to cost reduce a PCB.
I
work for Mutoh America and am new to the PCB world. I'm looking for standard
off the
shelf parts and processes. The information that I am looking for should contain

substrate material types and their reletive cost differences (percentages only)
and
characteristics, sokdermask, hole size, density level of copper from one board
edge
to the other, etc. I'm trying not to talk to PCB shops so that I amy get an
unbiased
opinion and know what is possible in this industry. I'm finding this to be a
difficult task.

Do you have any suggestions on were I can obtain this type of information?
Thank you,
