Mail*Link(r) SMTP FWD>Operating Temperatures of FR-4 material

Bob,

I didn't receive all of your message, but it seems your customer wants to run
some printed board assemblies or printed board material at lower than ambient
in the 200-230 degree K range.

FR-4 and most other epoxy and polyimide based, glass reinforced, printed board
resin systems have been operated at low operating temperatures with little or
no problems. Generally no problems in the 200 degrees K range. When you go
cryogenic (a few degrees K) though, one thing to be careful about is
mechanical flex --

material. While it seems clear that the upper limit would be below the
Tg of the laminate, how far below. And what would be considered the
lower operating temperature. My customer wanted to know if the board
would still function at -40 degrees C. I have know idea of the end use
of the product. Thanks in advance!!!
