We have OEMs that wave solder tantalum caps with no known problems. Bigger
problem with these caps is the need to periodically reform (by applying
voltage) them depending onnthe application

We do this routinely. The thermal shock of a preheated part going
through 500 deg. solder is probably less than touching the part with a
700 deg. iron.

Subject: [TN] Tantalum Caps

Technetters,

I have a product that has Tantalum Caps, having them waved would make
our
life easier, the board has some TH components we currently hand solder
and
that could be waved. I know that there might be some reason not to wave
Tantalums, but I am not sure. Can Tantalum Caps be wave soldered?, Has
anyone done this?

Any responses would be appreciated
