Leland,

I think stencil life is affected more by the number of times a stencil has
to be set-up, cleaned and stored. Stencils that remain in place due to a
long running job seem to last longer than stencils that we set up and tear
down more often.

It could also be that I never run a large enough quantity to see the
stencil wear out. For us a 500 piece annual run is a big deal. So our
stencils tend to see more wear and damage from handling rather than the
actual stencil printing itself.

Subject
[TN] Stencil Wear

Hi everyone,

Can you possibly give me an expected time for the replacement of a 6 mil
laser-cut stencil in a process that uses lead-free paste coupled with
polymer blades? I've had a lot of previous opinions, and few, if any,
match.

How many boards can be printed without fear of the thing wearing out?

I know many variables are involved, such as polymer durometer, aperture
size, etc., but is there a general consensus?

Thanks in advance,

Leland Woodall
