Alan, just out of curiosity, what are the driving factors behind setting up an
in-house facility versus using some of the many quick turn facilities that are
already in that business. What has driven you to decide to build your own?
So many companies have found it more financially feasible to close down small
in-house facilities and purchase out side. One very basic question, what board
size(s) do you think you will use? Based on the board size, you could set up
a "small scale" shop, or if you need to use anything above 18", you will need
all the same basic manufacturing equipment, test equipment, waste treatment,
and controlled environment rooms that a small manufacturer would set up.
If you do go forward with this, there is some very good used equipment
available, but alot of it has been bought up in the last few years by
companies that wanted to expand throughput/capabilities. At any rate, good
luck in your venture.

| We are considering setting up a PCB prototype facility
| in-house. The Engineering groups as a whole generate
| about 20 different prototype PCBs a month with quantities
| of 10 to 20 boards each (400 PCBs a month). Designs range
| from 2 sided to 10 layers and line/space to 6/6. The
| focus of this facility is "Quick Turn" (hours). Any
| information on the following would be greatly
| appreciated.1. What will we need and what choices do we
| have?2. What systems/equipment are the best for this
| application?3. How much space is required for a facility
| like this?4. How many people of what disciplines are
| needed to run this facility?4. What is the estimated cost
| to set up a facility like this?5. Can you recommend any
| person or organization that can generate several proposals
| for setting up this facility?Alan BerniApplications
