Quite often water labeled as deionized water is more like softened water.
The ions are not removed, just combined with other stuff. It is probably
more desirable for this test to use distilled or double-distilled water to
really make sure you have H2O only.

But what are you trying to learn from this test?

Subject: [TN] Battery contamination ???

Hello technet,
One of our customer reported a problem with a lot of battery but we are
confused as how to interpret the results.
The battery if a full metal casing with the negative lead spot welded to the
casing while the pos. lead connects inside. The visual aspect of the leads
are excellent.
The test consists to dip the component in a stainless steel ultrasonic bath
containing de-ionized water at 70C. The part is lying on a nylon net.
The positive lead of the battery gets darkened after 5 minutes in this bath.
Only the positive pin gets dark (oxydized)

Are we in the presence of an electrolytic reaction??
Is it contamination of the positive lead that cause this reaction ?
Any other test to suggest ?

Regards
MIchel Arbour
