In days of yore, when PC board design started to come out of the dark ages (as
in done by pen 'n ink, tape 'n dots, manually, by little gnomes who became
hunchbacks in the process) the Gerber Corporation was one of the foremost
entities for PC design equipment, plotters and software.  Like a lot of other
things, the name became a standard designation for plot files in the industry.
