When testing for dendritic growth, we tend to use a Siemens test
method (E-Corrosion, SN57030). Briefly, this test employs a specific
test pattern and the following test conditions:
1. CONDITIONING
(a) 2 hours @23degC/ 50%RH
(b) take initial resistance measurement @500V bias (c) 10
hours @40degC/ 20%RH, 100V bias
2. TEST
21 days at 40degC/ 90%RH, 100V bias
measure resistance periodically @500V bias (check for dendritic growth
at these times)
3. END (after 21 days)
measure resistance @500V bias
remove from oven, leave for 1 hour, measure resistance again.
We tend to apply the SM840B, Class C specification for insulation
resistance to these panels, as well as examining for dendrites.
Siemens developed this test at their plant in Munich. The address is
as follows:
Siemens AG
Dept. ZFE GR Technische Normung
Otto Hahn Ring 6
D8000 Munchen 83

In addition there has been a great deal of correspondence on this
subject already. You might find some more information by searching
the TechNet archive. The archive can be found on the WWW at

I hope this is of some use. Give me a call if you need more info.
