Hi Genny,
Technically, 'flash gold' means a a thin layer of Au plated either by an
electrolytic or electroless plating process. In eihter case, the Au thickness will
depend on the plating time and other plating parameters. More typically, Au
is applied by an immersion process which is self-limiting. This is important to
avoid thicker Au layers that can lead to gold-embrittlement.
