I recommend you get a sample from your customers to help define exactly what
they are expecting.. Frequently we are asked to provide a "certificate of
Compliance" which states that the product has been manufactured in accordance
with the customers request and specifications and that certain inspections,
test and cross sections have been taken. Each one is typically different,
unless as part of your QA department you do an entire check against all aspects
of IPC-600, in which case you may have some success in getting them to accept
that.

If the Material Certificate is anything more than a piece of paper which
confirms inspections or identifies std materials, I suggest you review its
contents with your legal advisors -- especially when you start getting into UL,
certification and related safety topics.

with Flexible circuits, assembly houses usually want to know the particular
type of material of the flexible circuit to plan assembly, and the product
manufacturer, may need to know the raw material and its basic UL rating to rate
his box; (ie, usually they need to know something like: "kapton E, Dupont
Product, identified as UL Listed by Dupont ...etc).

Style typically doesn't matter to most folks in my appearance, unless they ask
you to use Their form.

Hope this helps a bit.

Subject: How do you use Material Certificate?

Dear Tech Netters;

Does anyone kindly advise me the purpose of "material certificate" and
desirable style of it?
We are a manufacturer of Flexible Printed Circuit, and our customers who
assemble our FPC in their product often asked us to submit them "material
certificate" (not MSDS) concerning our product. I suggest that these kind of
documents will be used for UL application, but am not sure.
It seems that even some of our customer who export their assembled unit for
overseas can not say for certain.
I appreciate any suggestion very much because clear understanding makes it easy
to carry the work out!
 Thanks in advance.
