Rich,

In a prior life, I experienced the same issue that you witnessed with Kapton
tape. I believe there are 2 ways to work around this issue.

The first is to have any ionizer present, blowing ionized air over the tape
and hardware.

The second is to find tape that is ESD Safe. 3M, for example, makes
antistatic tapes for various applications, including masking gold fingers.
