Well, it didn't kill me. In my Navy days we used to mix up something we called "Purple Jesus". We would take a 5-gallon bucket, throw a bunch of sliced fruit (pineapple, oranges, lemons, and limes), and pour all kinds of fruit juices and 7-up into the bucket along with a couple of fifths of Everkleer. It would take on this purple color hence the name "Purple Jesus". If you drank enough of it, you would see god. Lost a couple of weekends with that stuff 😵

Ah, I did not know that about methanol.  So, I learned something today.







Make sure you know what the ethanol is denatured with! It used to be adulterated with 0.5% benzene. Yikes!







No booze will do it, not even Vodka Only (40%)..

Thank you Bev.  I would be a little concerned with methanol as it can often attack some plastic materials.







I suggested we make Jack Daniels as a preferred supplier but somehow management did not agree.  Certainly the pure ethanol would be too expensive to use, but I wonder about denatured alcohol.

Pretty sure you can use methanol or ethanol  (usually need special dispensation to use the latter, at least in Canada - gov wants to make sure they get the taxes for the stuff when it is imbibed!)  other alcohols could also be used, but the longer the alkyl chain the more likely to harm plastics AND the higher the BP and this slower evaporating.

Good afternoon all.

A general question - what is everyone using to disinfect surfaces in electronics manufacturing work spaces?  With the pandemic, many of the materials we would normally use, like Formula 409 and isopropanol, are getting in short supply as everyone is disinfecting everything in sight.

Our internal team is looking at new sources and new cleaners, with quick testing to determine if any are a danger to electronics, but I am curious as to what everyone else is using.  As this is probably a charged question, you can contact me separately.  If I get results that everyone can benefit from, in sanitized (pun intended) form, I will do so.
