I am giving under some conditions of operation under which conformal coating
is helpful.
Rough seas and heavy winds create an aerosol of upto 50 ppm salt . i.e. 50
ppm salt suspended in air. as far inland as 10kms. If this air moves in and
around the assembly and the temp.. changes to take this air volume below dew
point - this will result in condensation of conductive electrolyte onto the
assembly.
a conformal coating may save you - I have separately mailed you some other
leads I got from friends on TN re. Hv on PCBs and environment
