In the final analysis, does it really matter... If we can't laugh at
ourselves then we have lost a little something of our humanity and our
ability to cope. That seems to be in short supply these days. And, when you
think through this whole exchange of words - even on a Friday - don't we
all have a lot better things to accomplish today than simple commentary on a
poor choice of words? Let's move on...

The more interesting question here is whether or not Richard's joke would
have caused a stir if he had typed "lawyer" rather than "Democrat." If he
had used an ethnic slur, I would agree with everyone stomping on him with
both feet, but he didn't.
Classifying a remark as hate speech by substituting an ethnic group for the
noun of the sentence shouldn't be the litmus test for hate speech.
Example: "I live in New Hampshire and I just realized this year that I hate
SNOW." Now substitute any ethnic group for SNOW. It is not the same
sentence. Neither is a little political humor.
In this case, all we know is the candidate for whom Richard is most likely
to vote in November.
