Greg,
Could you be a little more descriptive in the detail of your application:
 Are the wires on-board jumpers?  (to beef up current carrying capacity)
 Are the wires interconnections to a chasis or other PCB?
 How long are the wire runs?
 Insulated wire?
 Can you crimp terminals on the end of the wires?
 What other termination options have you investigated?

I am looking for information to assist us in a design issue where we may
have to solder directly to a pcb, stranded copper wire of between 18 and
12awg. If anybody has any data that would this an undesireable practice
