Canada is a country, darn big one, but still a country.
I am pretty sure Dr. Bennet Christian was from a branch of the family not acknowledged by Bev.  I am sure there is a deep dark secret there somewhere.  Perhaps Bennet was, at some point, impolite to someone.  What self respecting Canadian would admit to knowing someone that foul?
As to the no UofC at Aklavik, no, not anymore!!!  I thought I established that.

I suspect the FEQAB has been bought.  Pretty sure Odin agrees.

The Element Quiz winner gets the services of our outstanding/amazing gnomes Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week (they have had their vaccination shots and can follow any covid-19 protocols the winner decides).



The Question:



The names of the elements are derived from a wide number of sources. This week we are looking for the elements that are named after countries. Note - there is one element where the being named after a country is an indirect derivation. Name the elements that are named after countries.



The Answer:

The following elements are named after countries:

  *   France: gallium and francium
  *   Cyprus: copper
  *   Germany: germanium
  *   Poland: polonium
  *   USA: americium
  *   Japan: nihonium
  *   India: indium (this is indirect via the Latin indicum meaning indigo)



So I finally found a element question that truly messed everyone up! No one had a perfect response but two people did get 7 of 8 correct. Bhanu Sood and Dick Krug both named 7 of 8 correctly. Russell Kido got 6 of 8 correct  and Odin got 5 of 8 correct.  Common mistake: Europe is a region and not an individual country so Eu doesn't count.  Copper derives its name from the Latin " Cyprium" meaning the "metal from Cyrus".  Thulium derives its name from Thule, the ancient name for Scandinavia, which again is a region and not a country.

The FEQAB (Friday Element Quiz Arbitration Board) reviewed Doug's submission of "canadium" as the quiz response. Doug's submission was not accepted as a consultation with Dr. Bev Christian revealed no relationship to a Dr. Bennett Christian. Additionally, Bev confirmed that there is no University of Canada in Aklavik. The city of  Aklavik only has a population of about 600. Sorry Doug, better luck on the next quiz.
