My advice would be to sign up for a good SPC course.
Start by calling your local community college to see what they offer.
Beyond that you might try the ASQCA to see what is offered.

If you want to skip that, and just work from the book, the best
book I've come accross in 26 years in the industry is called the
Statistical Process Control (SPC) Handbook, poublished in 1995 by
Chrysler, Ford and GM.  Copies can be obtained from A.I.A.G. at
(313)358-3570.  (Or so it says in the front of the book.)
